On January 12th, 2016, I had traveled to Kenya to meet a number of interesting people: Kairobi’s Mauna Kea community chief (Zawia Ndouj), a Kenyan author known for producing books on the topic of biodiversity in our area, and some who have given their all to conservation efforts (Riyad al-Ghiad, Taehng Yoo, Hala Qun, and others at a blog in Kenya).

The initial encounter was simple. I had moved from an isolated town to the city of Bawa, and we started talking about the current efforts of the Kenyan government to reduce water-use and deforestation in the country’s already very poor water.
